Job Description


Job Title:         IT Project Manager 2

Reports To:     Director of IT Program Management


General Functions:

The Project Manager 2 is a mid-level position in the project management discipline reporting directly to the Director of IT Program Management. This role either owns or assists Program Managers or Senior Project manager(s) with the initiation, administration, management, coordination and tracking of concurrent Corporate Technology Infrastructure, Datacenter Infrastructure, or Security projects while coordinating with many other departments. Is responsible for the preliminary scheduling and subsequent monitoring of easy to high complexity projects or assists Program or Senior Project Managers with highly complex projects throughout the project lifecycle.  Organizes the interdepartmental activities (i.e. meetings, scheduling, communications, etc) ensuring achievement of project goals and completion of the project on schedule and within budget.



No direct management of employees


Supervision Received:

Executive Management, Program or Senior Project Management. Normally receives instruction and mentoring daily within the project management team, along with general guidance on new or stretch goal assignments


Essential Responsibilities:

Responsible for the development of project plans, capturing and communication of goals, strategy, scheduling, identification of risks, contingency plans and allotment of resources (along with Resource Managers) for each phase of a project. Responsible for administration, tracking and reporting of project summary schedules, potentially under the supervision of the Program/Senior Project Manager.


  • Works with functional departments to identify and schedule project deliverables, milestones, and required tasks.
  • Coordinate assignment of project personnel.
  • Mange and coordinate activities of project personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within prescribed budget.
  • Enthusiasm for helping a team set and achieve challenging goals.
  • Manage and monitor the work of the team, to ensure that the team focuses on high priority items, while promoting teamwork.
  • Coordinate and respond to requests for changes from original specifications.
  • Demonstrate accountability for the results of the team.
  • Implement metrics to track team performance against scope, schedule, and budget expectations.
  • Develop and maintain project documentation.
  • Prepare project status reports and keep management, clients, and others informed of project status and related issues.
  • Analyze and escalate potential project problems.
  • Conduct and publish lessons learned.




Experience and Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience
  • Project Management coursework (preferred)
  • 3+ years project management experience preferred, 2-year minimum.
  • Hands on and/or Project Management Experience with a complex Corporate Technologies, Datacenter Infrastructure, and Security:


    • Security Processes\ Best Practices
    • Network Technologies
    • SAN/NAS Storage
    • Server Systems Platforms and Operating Systems
    • Backup Technologies
    • Technology Vendors
    • Coordination with Application Development teams (Agile, RUP, Waterfall) 


  • Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
    • Based in San Diego.
    • No regular travel is required.
    • Quarterly weekend work required for quarterly datacenter maintenance projects
    • Off-Hours work may be required to oversee large or complex changes related to projects

  • Proficient use of project related software applications (i.e. MS Office, MS Project, SharePoint, Excel, etc.)
