    Job Description

    XD at Mitchell
Creating simplicity and style in form and function. Evoking delight and making people’s lives easier. These are the things that keep us up at night. At Mitchell UX, we are thoughtful observers and tenacious doers. We believe that great design is as much about behavior and emotion as it is about utility and ease of use. We love learning from our clients, understanding their desires and challenges, and crafting solutions to make them smile.  We are a tight-knit team of tremendously talented, passionately driven researchers and designers who are committed to making the world a better place, one design at a time.  If this sounds like you—we should talk.

    The Opportunity
Visual designers on our team are responsible for balancing usability with desirability—using color, style, type, icons, information design, and visual hierarchy to clarify data, highlight relationships, imply behavior, and convey the essence of our brand. Visual Designers are responsible for strategizing visual brand language, leading design projects, understanding our stakeholder’s needs and our client’s goals, and translating them into unique creative solutions. We are on a quest for a Visual Designer, perhaps you, who can take an active, hands-on role in leading ideation and providing art direction to other designers. To be successful, you will need to use leadership skills to drive to the best outcome, resulting in others learning from you, and inspiring others to want to work with you. You will need to combine the courage of your convictions with the willingness to ask for help, follow direction, and exchange constructive critique with peers.

On a daily basis you will:
    • Conceptualize brand-consistent, easy-to-use, desirable and meaningful visual design solutions that elicit positive emotional responses to elate our customers.
    • Produce visual assets and design artifacts including mock-ups, color palettes, wireframes, flow diagrams, iconography, application skins, and other graphical elements.
    • Create engaging presentations for business and technical audiences that effectively articulate design concepts and solutions that best meet project goals.
    • Collaborate closely with our Marketing Leaders, Interaction Designers, Product Managers, and Software Engineers to balance design simplicity, business requirements, user needs, and technical realities.
    • Leverage industry best practices and design standards to define and implement appropriately detailed style guides and design specifications that succinctly convey essential concepts.
    • Develop project plans and coordinate schedules to establish appropriate goals, milestones and deadlines.

    Qualifications

    Our Requirements
    • 3+ years professional experience with proven leadership in product branding and visual design.
    • BA/BS in Visual Design, Graphic Design, Interactive Media, HCI, CogSci, or related field.
    • Demonstrated success leading teams and strategically partnering with cross-functional stakeholders
    • Proven ability to lead the presentation of conceptual ideas and design rationale to “sell” ideas.
    • Expertise with typography, application of color theory, and image production for color and performance.
    • Thorough understanding of interface, interaction design and usability theory for software applications.
    • A passion for establishing and maintaining design systems.
    • Intense self-motivation to prioritize and manage work load and meet critical project milestones and deadlines.
    • Jedi mastery with Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, and MS Office applications.
    • Web design skills including CSS and XHTML/HTML5 are highly desirable.
    • A lifelong love of collaboration and learning.
    • A fearless and positive attitude.

    Your Portfolio
A portfolio of representative work is essential. Your design portfolio must:
    • Passionately show a deep appreciation for simple, sleek screen-based interfaces.
    • Demonstrate mastery of clean, intuitive layouts and a knack for purposeful color.
    • Exhibit stylistic breadth and attention to detail.
    • Balance beauty, innovation and usability.
