We see a world where enterprise software is beautiful.  We set our sights on building Magnetic, a product design system aimed to bring cohesion across our array of products and services.   We seek a new manager to join our team and lead the charge to propel Magnetic to the next level.

     

    As an Experience Design Manager, you will lead a small, diverse group of talented designers to make a big impact.  You will be responsible for driving standardization and building reusable assets for Magnetic to create a cohesive, beautiful digital experience across Mitchell’s product portfolio. You will set strategy and direction for your team.  You will hire, mentor and manage designers and developers to actualize your vision.  As a player-coach, you will have many opportunities to be hands-on, but will focus on partnering, collaborating and enabling your team to be successful. On any given day, you may find yourself:

     

    • Identifying new patterns to solve challenging problems which span multiple products and usage scenarios
    • Sketching ideas on a whiteboard to give others a clear picture and gain shared understanding
    • Facilitating a design sprint with a cross-functional peers to jump start a new design project
    • Building interactive prototypes to bring ideas to life and explore structural and behavioral nuances
    • Providing constructive feedback, offering suggestions and giving guidance to people on their designs
    • Watching and listening intently to usability study participants who are testing a new pattern or component design
    • Presenting solutions and advocating for your team to gain alignment and buy in with stakeholders and leadership
    • Prioritizing projects and allocating people to deliver maximum business impact
    • Leading a retrospective to identify opportunities to help your team run more smoothly
    • Building a business case for a new tool to improve productivity and performance
    • Recruiting, screening and interviewing top talent to hire for your dream team
    • Mentoring and coaching people to help them improve their skills as designers and leaders
    • Smiling, laughing and enjoying a team lunch, happy hour or offsite event

    Qualifications

    You are an accomplished leader with a systematic mindset and technical background who will forever be a designer at heart.  More than a manager, you are a mentor who is passionate about coaching and who inspires your team to give it their all.  You have:

     

    Experience

    • Eight or more years working as a user experience or product designer, ideally on enterprise software
    • Two plus years leading a design team, ideally managing and mentoring multiple direct reports
    • One good example of implementing a product design system and applying it across multiple products
    • Hands-on software/systems engineering experience, ideally working within agile development environment
    • A proven track record of identifying, attracting, interviewing and hiring talented team member 

    Expertise

    • Mastery of interaction design and information architecture theory and principles
    • Expertise with design thinking methods, techniques and processes
    • Fundamental knowledge of traditional software engineering practices and agile development practices
    • Clear understanding front-end development technologies and their best applications
    • Degree in Human Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Cognitive Science, Computer Science, or similar
