    Job Description

    We challenge you to join the Mitchell team as an experienced Intellectual Property Paralegal. This position will report to the Assistant General Counsel and is primarily responsible for assisting in the management of Mitchell’s intellectual property portfolio. Specifically, the Intellectual Property Paralegal will be responsible for overseeing patent and trademark matters, including interfacing with business stakeholders and outside counsel, and preparing status reports. A secondary role for this position involves provide contracting support to Mitchell’s commercial contracting function.  This position is an exciting opportunity to be a part of an innovative team improving the way intellectual property matters and commercial contracts are created and managed at Mitchell. You will be based in our headquarters in San Diego.

    • Providing legal and administrative assistance to attorneys and management.
    • Interfacing with and assisting outside counsel on intellectual property matters.
    • Managing trademark, patent, and copywrite portfolios through coordination with marketing, product development, and the legal team leadership.
    • Conducting initial trademark searches and assisting with the Mitchell patent submission program.
    • Generating related reports and summaries to the position’s supervisor and leadership teams.
    • Managing trademark and patent dockets and deadlines.
    • Informing internal stakeholders of new portfolio developments such as patent and trademark office actions and grants.
    • Assisting in investigating and responding to infringement matters.
    • Taking accountability in delivering value to Mitchell and its customers, partners, and vendors.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree and/or a legal qualification such as a Paralegal.
    • 5 or more years of directly applicable experience with patents and trademarks.
    • Working knowledge of common commercial agreements and contracting practices.
    • Experience in software, software-as-a-service or other intellectual property licensing preferred.
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
    • Ability to work independently and on own initiative or as part of a team.
    • Research and investigative skills.
