    Job Description

    This role provides an opportunity for a technical project manager to expand their knowledge and develop into a Release Train Engineer. The Release Train Engineer (RTE) is a Scrum Master in charge at the program level. The RTE will facilitate lean and agile release processes and program execution, escalates impediments, manages risk, and helps drive program-level continuous improvement. RTE’s are responsible for facilitating program events such as Release Planning Meetings, Release Management Meetings, the Inspect & Adapt Workshops, and the Scrum of Scrums. The RTE will drive lean, agile, XP practices, and other software delivery practices that ensure our Agile delivery process continues to be a success.

     

    Job Responsibilities:

    Release Train Engineers (often called Agile Project or Program Managers) typically fulfill the following responsibilities:

    • Facilitates Product Delivery Planning days known as PSI Planning
    • Facilitates release planning events and release readiness process
    • Assists with program execution and PSI feature completion tracking
    • Facilitates Scrum of Scrums
    • Facilitates the bi-weekly sprint review team demo sessions
    • Assists with decision-making by facilitating estimation by teams and roll-up to Program level visibility
    • Establishes the annual calendars for sprints and PSIs
    • Remove impediments when possible, escalated when necessary
    • Encourages team collaboration
    • Works with Product Management, Product Owners, and Product Delivery leaders to help assure strategy and execution alignment
    • Helps manage risk
    • Reports status to Release Management Team
    • Provides input on moving team members to address critical bottlenecks
    • Drives program-level continuous improvement via Retrospectives and Inspect & Adapt workshops
    • Encourages team and program level Agile engineering practices and Communities of Practice around Scrum, and Agile program management
    • Will be the project manager on 1 or more Product Delivery initiatives
    • Facilitates enterprise level training of processes and concepts used in the product delivery life cycle

    Knowledge

    • Developing professional expertise; applies company policies and procedures and uses creativity and judgement to resolve a variety of issues.

    Job Complexity

    • Works on problems of moderate and expanding scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. Exercises good judgment to determine appropriate action. Builds productive internal/external working relationships.

    Supervision

    • Normally receives little instructions on routine work; typically receives only general instructions on new assignments, but may sometimes receive specific direction on assignments.

    Experience

    • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience, an advanced degree without experience, or equivalent work experience.
